Traditional Veterinary Services

Along with our holistic practices, we provide all traditional veterinary services as well. We know each pet is different and some treatments will work better than others. It’s important to us to provide your pet with the best individualized treatment to ensure a long, healthy and happy life.

Wellness & Preventative Care

We believe that all pets need regular examinations. It is really important for your pet’s overall health because it allows veterinarians to do a thorough check up and evaluate your pet’s general condition. Because we also practice integrative medicine, we completely evaluate your pet – including lifestyle, diet and environmental aspects.

During the examination, our doctors will check your pet from head to tail. We will recommend annual blood tests, urine and fecal testing to give us an accurate assessment of your pet’s vital organs and how they are functioning.

Pets age much faster then we do. A common adage is that pets age 7 years for every 1 year we age. That means that in 1 year your pet may have experienced changes that we would in 7 years. That is a reason to make sure your pet comes in for yearly checkups and labwork.

We recently have caught several pets who developed silent heart disease since their last visit. We were able to recommend diagnostics and supplements to help these pets live longer and prevent their heart disease from worsening. If their owners did not bring them in for their yearly checkups these pets may have only come in once their disease was to serious to treat.

Full Service Lab & Thyroid Screening

We have a full service lab which handles preventative blood, urine, and fecal tests as well as comprehensive screening and PCR testing for many diseases. We also offer complete thyroid testing through MSU lab which is read by an endocrinologist. We have found many cases of undetected thyroid disease by yearly thyroid testing.

Vaccines

At Williston Park Animal Hospital we offer the Jean Dodd’s minimal vaccine protocol and we carry the recommended Merk Nobivac DPV vaccine as well as the Merial Imrab TF Thimerisol Free vaccines for dogs and the Merial Purevax FVRCP & Rabies vaccines for cats. We believe in a minimal vaccine protocol for our own pets and also recommend it for the best health of your pet.

We also offer “Dr. Rob Protect the Pets Rabies Vaccine Protocol ” Which doses the rabies vaccine by pet size instead of a one size fits all dosage. We do recommend a follow up rabies titer to ensure immunity with the lower dosage. We also offer homeopathic remedies & detox to mitigate the side effects of any vaccines as an option.

OFA X-rays, OFA Thyroid & DNA Testing

We offer Hip, Elbow, Heart and Thyroid screening through the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) to promote the health and welfare of animals used for breeding and prevent the spread of genetic disease. We also offer the option of OFA x rays WITHOUT SEDATION. Our Doctor and Techs are experienced in positioning for and performing OFA X Rays. Genetic Testing is an importantpart of any breeding program so we offer Base Paws DNA testing which is comparable to Embark and just requires a quick cheek swab.

Allergy Testing & Immunotherapy

Just like people, pets suffer from allergies- and the itching and scratching that goes along with them. Thousands of pets suffer from allergies, a disease in which your pet’s immune system reacts abnormally to everyday substances such as pollens, animal dander, mold spores, mites and certain foods. If your dog or cat is itching, scratching, licking or chewing the skin, it might be because of allergies. Do you see redness of the belly, ears or an ear infection that won’t go away? It’s time for a check up to to see if your dog or cat may be suffering from allergies!

We have found that when your pet is struggling with allergies, a simple blood test can get to the bottom of what your pet is allergic to, so that we can come up with a treatment plan to resolve your pet’s allergy symptoms. Heska also offers custom immunotherapy based on your pet’s allergy testing that comes in the form of daily oral drops or monthly injections that can be performed at home. These are up to 75% effective at resolving allergies in pets.

We now have allergy testing available by Heska labs to find out what your dog or cat is allergic to. With a simple blood test performed right in our hospital we can come up with a treatment solution to bring effective, long-term relief to your pet!

Dentistry

Did you know that dental disease is one of the most overlooked disease in pets? Most dogs or cats will keep on eating even if their mouth hurts. You may notice your pet’s teeth are discolored or he seems a little quieter than usual or maybe doesn’t want to chew bones anymore, they may start chattering their teeth – or they may have no symptoms at all except for bad breath.

Some common signs of dental disease:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Bad breath
  • Difficulty eating
  • Blood in the mouth
  • Coughing or sneezing

If you notice any of these things we recommend scheduling a check up. During the checkup we will look inside your pet’s mouth to detect any dental or gum disease. We may recommend a dental cleaning to take care of any issues.

Key steps to protecting your pet’s dental health:

  • Brush your pet’s teeth
  • Dental Chews – we recommend natural ones (bully sticks, etc)
  • Routine examinations
  • laser therapy
  • essential oil therapy
  • herbal therapy

International Health Certificates for Travel (USDA – APHIS Certified)

If you’re planning to travel, we can provide health certificates for your pet. Please keep in mind, each country sets it’s own guidelines for pets entering the country and most require a pet to arrive with a health certificate. Be sure to schedule your health certificate visit with enough time before your date of travel.

X-Rays

We offer digital x-rays and digital dental x-rays on site.

X-rays provide us with immediate results to visualize fractures, masses, pneumonia, or dental issues.

We also have capability to send our x rays to a board certified radiologist for assessment.

We provide OFA hip, elbow x rays as well.

Ultrasound & Echocardiogram

Not all veterinary hospitals have an ultrasound on site. We are proud to offer same-day, in-house ultrasound capabilities on site.

We use our ultrasound to:

  • Check for emergency conditions (abdominal fluid, tumors, etc)
  • Check for pregnancy
  • Check for bladder stones
  • Diagnosing various conditions of internal organs
  • Check for internal trauma

Our ultrasounds are read by a board certified specialist. Because we have our ultrasound on site you do not have to wait to schedule. We can do same day ultrasounds – which usually take about 30 to 40 minutes for a complete ultrasound. The procedure itself is quick and painless. Ultrasounds use sounds waves to allow us to look inside your pet’s body to help us diagnose your pet’s problem. They are a great alternative to x rays to better visualize the internal organs.

We also offer echocardiograms.

We prefer our echocardiograms to be done by a board certified cardiologist. This has to be scheduled ahead of time. We will do a thorough check of your pet’s heart and thorax to evaluate any issues. The echocardiogram will be read by the cardiologist.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is the use of extreme cold to destroy abnormal or diseased tissue. This can be used to to remove small cysts and masses without anesthesia. A local numbing gel to prevent pain and, in 1 or 2 treatments, your pet’s masses will be gone. This works best for small masses on the skin. Cryotherapy can be done during your pet’s regular appointment and does not require sedation.
