Holistic & Integrative Veterinary Services

Holistic veterinary medicine is an alternate approach to animal healthcare that emphasizes the overall well-being of your pet. Our vets address your pet’s symptoms, alleviating pain or discomfort where necessary but we don’t stop there. We spend the time to get to know your pet – their environment, diet, emotional states and seek to understand the root cause of their symptoms.

Using both holistic and traditional veterinary treatments, our goal is to promote balance for your pet through least invasive methods, supporting your pet’s own immune system and healing processes.

Titer Testing

We offer Titer testing which allows us to evaluate your pet’s antibody levels to certain diseases. Titer testing allows us to tell you if your pet will be protected against disease and can prevent us from putting additional vaccines into their body. We offer titers for Distemper, Parvo, Rabies, Lepto, and Feline distemper, Rhino and Calicivirus. If your pet does need vaccines we offer Jean Dodd’s Vaccine Protocol, Dr. Rob Protect the Pet Rabies vaccine protocol and Homeopathic remedies, Vaccinosis and Detox protocols to minimize the effect on their body from vaccination.

Microbiome Testing

We offer MIcrobiome testing through Animal Biome. With this test we evaluate your pet’s normal flora to see if it is balanced. We have diagnosed many pets with an imbalance of microflora which can cause “leaky gut syndrome”, diarrhea, chronic itchy skin and other symptoms. Imbalanced microbiomes can be caused by the wrong diet, overuse of antibiotics, pre-existing health conditions and environmentalcauses. We will help yourpet through diet modification and the use of supplements to balance their microbiome. We carry the full line of Animal Biome supplements and have helped many pets become healthy again with a balanced microbiome.

Hormone Sparing Surgeries

We perform Ovary sparing spays and Vasectomies at our hospital as an option to retain your pet’s hormones but prevent unwanted pregancies. These surgeries are approved and recommended by the Parsemus foundation. Newer studies done at UC DAVIS have found that hormone loss can contribute to thyroid problems, tendon and ligament injuries, urinary incontinence and certain types of cancer. During the ovary sparing spay (OSS) we remove the uterus and cervix, but leave the ovaries intact. During the Vasectomy we remove part of the Vas Deferens, but leave the Testes intact. Both of these surgeries preserve your pet’s natural hormones.

Acupuncture for Pets

It is a form of complementary and alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine TCVM. Acupuncture can treat a range of conditions, though is most commonly used for pain relief.

Stem Cell Therapy

Stem Cell Therapy is a new and unique way to treat arthritis and chronic joint pain in dogs and cats.

Stem cell therapy involves injecting stem cells into the areas of pain and degeneration. The stem cells then mature into cells with specialized functions that enable them to repairing the body’s tissues that are damaged by injury or disease. We have partnered with Vet-Stem to offer this service to our patients.

The process of stem cell therapy involves three steps:

  • We harvest stem cells from your pet by collecting a small fat sample from the patient (the best stem cells are usually obtained from the abdomen) during a short surgical procedure. The sample is shipped to the VetStem laboratory for processing.
  • The VetStem laboratory processes the fat sample into usable stem cells. The stem cells are shipped back to us ready to repair your pet’s injured or damaged tissue.
  • Another short procedure involves injecting the stem cells directly into the affected tissue to allow it to repair and heal.

Food Therapy

Food therapy uses food and nutrition as a therapeutic option to treat illness and maintain health and wellness. Food therapy uses the energetic properties of foods to help treat various conditions including allergies and chronic conditions. Our veterinarians are certified in food therapy. We will work with you to tailor a specific diet or recipe to improve your pet’s health and resolve various conditions.

Essential Oil Therapy

Essential Oils are naturally occurring aromatic compounds that give a plant its distinctive aroma or scent. They also contain compounds that keep the plant healthy and protect it from diseases and insects. Essential Oils are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. Besides being fragrant, essential oils can be used for many health benefits and contain anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory and immune boosting qualities. They are also effective for natural flea control remedies. Did you know – we make our own essential oil blends for things like flea, tick and mosquito prevention!

Our doctors are trained in the safe use of essential oils for pets. It is a myth that essential oils are not safe for pets. When used the right way essential oils are very effective for various conditions and can replace or be used as an adjunct to traditional medications. Essential oils for pets should be diluted before use.

Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique that promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is similar to acupuncture in that it is based on the idea that our bodies contain a natural “life force energy” or “Qi” that flows through us and that this energy can become weak or blocked when we are sick or injured. The Reiki practitioner can feel where the energy is blocked and can help this energy to regain its natural strength and flow to promote healing. Reiki can be used to help the body heal from various ailments from simple stomach upset to cancer. Reiki also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
